Dr. Stephanie Lavoie earned her M.A. and Ph.D. from York University in the Clinical-Developmental Psychology Program in the Clinical Neuropsychology stream. She completed her post-doctoral residency at McMaster Children’s Hospital.
Dr. Lavoie has worked in private practice, hospitals (McMaster Children's Hospital, Southlake Regional Health Centre, Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario, and Lakeridge Health), and community mental health (Blue Hills Child and Family Centre) settings with children, adolescents, and their families. She has experience working with a broad range of mental health (e.g., anxiety, depression, emotion regulation, etc.,), neurodevelopemental (e.g. Autism Spectrum Disorders, genetic syndromes, stroke, etc.,), and learning concerns. Dr. Lavoie provides both treatment and assessment. Her integrative approach to treatment involves attending to family and individual strengths and needs. Her treatment approaches include cognitive-behaviour therapy (CBT), dialectical-behaviour therapy (DBT), and Emotion Focused Family Therapy. Dr. Lavoie also has a particular research interest in the neurological mechanisms of Autism Spectrum Disorders. She has published her work in multiple peer-reviewed journals and presented her research at international conferences. As the final step towards autonomous practice, Dr. Lavoie is currently completing her year of supervised practice under the supervision of Dr. Robin Mitchell. Dr. Lavoie is currently on maternity leave. |
